Despite becoming a video game maker in the 1980's, Nintendo existed about 100 years eariler in 1888. They first made playing cards for the Japanese game Hanafuda. Nintendo has not forgotten it's roots however. They recently gave out the Hanafuda cards on the Club Nintendo service with the Mario Crew on there. Even Americans got a chance to redeem this prize.
