Things I Like: The Wicker Man (1973 Film)

Need a perfect Halloween movie? Look none other than The Wicker Man. Not the remake but the 1973 British original. It's not scary in the traditional sense, there's not really any blood or gore, but it does seem more Stephen King than Wes Craven. The movie stars a police officer looking for a missing girl. He goes to a remote Scottish island in search for her. It's so remote that he's the only

A Look Into History: Julian the Apostate

Julian was born a member of the Constantinian dynasty. He was made Caesar by Constantius II, but later rebellion against him. Civil was was avoided by the mere fact that Constantius had died shortly before fighting would have begun. Despite their differences, Julian was named his rightful successor personally. After his death he became sole Emperor of the Roman Empire. However many people in the

Fact of the Day: Terrible Ancestor

Nathaniel Hawthrone was a famous author during the 19th century. One of his works was the famous novel The Scarlet Letter.  He did have a famous ancestor as well. Well sorta famous. His great-great-grandfather John Hathorne (Nathaniel changed the spelling of his own surname) was a judge and executor for the infamous Salem Witch Trials. He was the only person to never repent for his crimes.

Rapture is Not Going to Happen Again Tomorrow

Remember back in May of this year when this guy Harold Camping led most of America into thinking they would fly up to heaven? Instead nothing happened. Well soon after his prediction flopped, he said he got his math wrong, and that October 21st will be the next rapture. I wonder what his excuse next time will be?

Herman Cain Turns Jesus Into A Right Wing Conservative Killed By a Liberal Court

If you can control one's religion, you have immense power. And I think that's what Herman Cain is trying to do. He was boasting that Jesus was a proud conservative. He used lines like healing the sick, being unemployed (I thought he was a carpenter?), feeding the poor, and never used a governmental program. Like those even existed over 2000 years ago. Especially not from the Roman Empire to

Jon Huntsman Mocks Herman Cain's 9-9-9 Tax Plan

Herman Cain recently came up with a tax plan at the Republican debate called his 9-9-9 plan. A plan that gets rid of all other taxes and replaces it with 9% on personal income, 9% on corporate income, and a 9% sales tax. I guess he gave up on the fair tax idea (seriously every bumper sticker with Herman Cain I see has the fair tax sticker too), and is going for something more catchier, and more

Fact of the Day: He Took His Idea To The Grave

There's been a questionable urban legend among Christian groups that Charles Darwin (guy who founded Evolution) had converted to Christianity on his deathbed and renounced Evolution. The only source of this story is a tale of a woman known as Lady Hope. Lady Hope allegedly visited him on his deathbed and saw things like him reading a bible. Darwin's religious views were complex over his lifetime,

Watched Religulous

I'm a big fan of Bill Maher's work, but I've never watched his movie. I actually kinda forgot he made it. However when I saw a copy at my local library, and reached for it without hesitation. Now I'm pretty non-religious, so this is defiantly not something a religious person would enjoy. Though they would find a lot to learn from the stuff he points out. He goes from Israel, to all parts of
