Nintendo Posts a $927 Million Dollar Loss

After a horrible launch with the 3DS, Nintendo had to do price drops among other things. Now they almost lost a billion dollars. They're not out of the game, but they are going to have to seriously reshape their game-plan. I could see them maybe trying to do shameless classic NES ports to smart-phones at least the Android phones.

Dragon's Lair (NES) Review

Dragon's Lair was a big hit in the arcades back in the day. I was too young to experience it, but I do remember seeing the franchise time and time again over the years. I also heard how the game was pretty overrated when the graphics didn't seem as hot. The NES version doesn't feature the graphics of the original. Instead it goes for it's own style and transfers the game into plain 2D game-play.

Bucky O'Hare (NES) Review

I don't remember much about Bucky O'Hare except my brother once dressed up as him for Halloween one year. So yeah that's what made me get the NES game which is apparently one of the few games they ever made. It's actually a little bit of a MegaMan clone. You can select the stage you want to complete, and you run around jumping and shooting. It's not a direct copy, but you can easily see the

Captain Planet and the Planeteers (NES) Review

I really liked Captain Planet when I was a kid. However I had no clue they made a game about one of my favorite superheroes. After playing it, maybe that was for the best. Because my childhood would have been pretty crappy to get this embarrassment of a game. The game starts you out in a Gradius-ish gameplay set-up. You control the ship and shoot enemy planes with each different power. Except all

Ninja Kid (NES) Review

I've never heard of Ninja Kid as a kid. I guess the horrendous boxart kept most people away. His sword isn't even on his back and it's tall as his head. I could draw better than that when I went to kindergarten. Okay enough criticism about the boxart, the game itself couldn't be as bad right? Right....?Apparently production values were very low-budget on every aspect of the game. Even the

Arkanoid (NES) Review

Arkanoid is a classic, but I haven't played it much. So I got my hands on an NES copy, and decided to try it out. The NES version is Arkanoid like you know it. Almost graphically as good as the original, and plays pretty good as well. But that's almost the problem with Arkanoid. It was a decent arcade game idea. It would entertain you for a 10 to 20 minutes until you move on to the next machine.

Dirty Harry (NES) Review

Man do I love the Dirty Harry movies. Clint Eastwood's finest moments for sure. I didn't know they even made a game based on the classic series until recently. I was hoping it wasn't a dud. That's Dirty Harry? I don't remember him looking like a short Arnold Schwarzenegger. Well whatever, at least you have your gun and you have lots of places to inspect. Oh and they're all crawling with thugs.

American Gladiators (NES) Review

I never really watched the show when it came on. I watched a bit of the re-runs about a decade later and thought it was okay. I never got suckered into the game though. I heard pretty bad things over the years about it, but hey I'll give anything a shot. Unlike many other NES games based on a movie or TV show, American Gladiators at least gets the point of the show into video game form. You have

BurgerTime (NES) Review

I've never played any version of BurgerTime until now.  I've heard good things, though not about the NES version at least. I know most of the BurgerTime fanboys fell in love with the arcade original. This is what the arcade version of Burgertime looks like. Not bad for 1982 if I do say so myself. This is the NES version which takes a bit of a hit graphically but not as much as some other ports of

Rad Racer Review

Despite being in Nintendo's "Sport Series' this title was not made by Nintendo themselves. It was actually a pure creation of Squaresoft, the folks behind Final Fantasy. Was their racing game as fantastic as their RPGs? No, not even close, and I'm not even a Final Fantasy fan.Rad Racer today is no more than a bare bones racing game with awful graphics, but a decent sense of speed. You go from

Friday the 13th (NES) Review

I've never been a fan of the film series, heck I doubt I've even sat through one of the movies for the full showing once in my lifetime. Not because I'm afraid, it's because most of those movies are terrible. Granted it was one of the first "horror" games on any system. The rainbow on the box-art confirms it. Like I said, I'm not too familiar with the movies, but this game is set somewhere after

M.U.S.C.L.E. (NES) Review

M.U.S.C.L.E. was based on a series of action figures in Japan called Kinkeshi which was based on the manga Kinnikuman which means Muscleman so at least they didn't butcher the translation. Though the series faded away into a deep dark pit of retrospection, many remember it and the NES game was pretty notable for fans. The NES game based on the hit series is more or less just a simple wrestling

Joust (NES) Review

Back in the late 90's was the first time I've ever played Joust. We had some kind of arcade re-release disc for PS1, and I remember having a little bit of fun with it. I was too young to have played it in the arcade, but despite it being so old, it stuck in my memory more than most games on that disc did. I also found out that they made a NES version of Joust, and I wanted to try it out for

Skate or Die! (NES) Review

Skate or Die! was the Tony Hawk of video games before the excellent series ripped our Playstations apart with shear awesomeness. Was the old series as good as it's modern successor? Well no not even close. I remember playing the arcade version on some GameCube arcade re-release disc I think Midway released and not liking it too well. The NES version shares a similar fate. One thing I'll give this

Deadly Towers Review

I never played this when I was little. Thinking back, I would have hated it back then because this game is brutally tough. If I quit on the Legend of Zelda, there's no way my four year old self could have handled this adventure. If you can call it an adventure that is, since this is easily one of the worst NES games ever made. Speaking of Zelda, this seems to be at least in the same genre with me

Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti (Famicom/NES) Review

Now most games that came out on the Japanese Famicom also arrived on it's American counterpart the NES. It was usually just Japanese TV shows and movie games that stayed in the land of the rising sun. However a few notable games didn't go overseas for no apparent reason. Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti is one of them. Despite being more cartoony and "kiddy", it's actually one of the best games in

Solar Jetman: Hunt For The Golden Warship (NES) Review

For most of my years as a kid or even as an adult, I've never heard of Solar Jetman: Hunt For the Golden Warship. It must had been one of those NES games that fell under the radar right? Well it fell under the radar for a good reason. That reason being is that it's not really a good game. It seems like they were trying to make an arcade game even though this an original NES game. The point of the

Spider-Man: Return of the Sinister Six (NES) Review

I'm a big fan of almost anything Spider-Man related. Whether it be the awesome cartoons, the film series, the comic books, cameos in other media, and of course video games. However I don't approve of everything Spidey related, in fact my spidey-sense tingles painfully when I get something that smears the reputation of the franchise. Now being the only Spider-Man game (that I can figure out) on

Battletoads (NES) Review

I've heard good things over the years, but it wasn't until now that I've had the chance to play the NES classic. It follows a very basic Double Dragon set-up. Run right, defeat enemies, run right, repeat. Well until they constantly change the game-play. You'll go from jumping across gaps, swinging down a massive cave, and even riding a motorbike. Add that with a fast and fun combat system, and

Double Dragon II: The Revenge (NES) Review

Honestly I haven't played much of it since I was a kid, but I found an old copy of mine and took it for a spin. Double Dragon was a decent version on NES, but it had it's own share of problems. Like a huge hit in the graphical department, and the complete lack of 2 player co-op in the main mode. Luckily they must of learned a few tricks for the 2nd game because you can play with a friend if you
