My Day Yesterday: A Lot of Movies + Dark Cloud

My girlfriend and I watched a whole bunch of movies today. She had gotten these first two from the local library. She's a sucker for made for TV movies. The first one was Molly: An American Girl on the Home Front. It teaches about sacrifice, patriotism, and dealing with loss. I liked the history and theme about it with it being about World War II and such.It also features 80's icon Molly Ringwald

Strike Force Bowling (PS2) Review

For a video game connoisseur such as myself, I find it strange when I've never heard of a game. My girlfriend loved the bowling mini-game in both Wii Sports games, and she was thrilled to know that there was a bowling game for PS2. She rented it off my Blockbuster account, so it didn't really cost me anything in a sense. Except my time, which I want back. The game features basic bare-bones modes

My Day Yesterday: New Jacket and Terrible Video Games

Today was just another normal day off from work. I don't have to work again until Halloween. My girlfriend and I played Hot Shots Golf 3 again. She's getting better. She also played World Championship Poker for PS2. She turned it off in about 5 minutes. Really awful. We also played Strike Force Bowling for PS2. It was....awful. Really awful. She had rented it through my Blockbuster By Mail

A Look Into Video Games: PSX

PSX eh? No, this is not a post about the original PlayStation. It used to be nicknamed PSX back before the PS2 came out since PS sounded weird. Now most people call it the PS1.Sony did release an official PSX but only in Japan. It was basically Tivo meets PS2. It also didn't even come with controller, you had to buy it separately. It's high price tag pushed away consumers, and in the end they

My Day Yesterday: Small Politics & Cookies

Started my day (though it was more early morning) by watching an episode of Neon Genesis Evangelion. It's starting to get good. So much mystery though. Also met the man running for City Council in my district today. I've heard of him recently, and he's by far the better choice than the incumbent. I wrote an endorsement for him earlier and he came by to thank me for it in person. Spent most of the

My Day Yesterday: No Soda and Some Video Games

Woke up kinda late and realized that I had no soda at all to drink. I was a bit tired, and didn't want to go far so I just drove to the gas station near my house and grabbed a 12 pack of their off brand. Then five minutes after get home, my mom got back from the store. Guess what she bought for me? Soda...great. I wasted my time. Tried chilling out with some video games. Like Medal of Honor:

Medal of Honor: Frontline (PS2) Impressions

I've played a few World War II shooters over the years, yet I missed out on this one. I heard it was pretty good, but then again it was released almost a whole decade ago so I'm surprised it's aged a bit. It does at least give you one of World War II's finest moments with D-Day and such. Pretty epic battle. It's a shame that the graphics are very muddy and it seems like it's too hard to shoot

Hot Shots Golf 3 Impressions

I remember liking the first two on PS1 but never gave the PS2 ones a chance until now. It kinda sucks that you're limited to only 3 golfers from the start, but hey that's the fun of unlocking stuff right? I played my first course. Besides an awful caddy (nerdy guy who is so stereotypical it's shameful), I had a pretty good run. Did a +14 which isn't so bad considering it was my first crack at it

My Day Yesterday: A Dark Cloud Of Being Called Into Work

Got a phone call at about 9 a.m. in the morning. Apparently one of the dudes at work got sick, and I had to work about 9 to 10 hours on my day off. I didn't mind, I really needed it. Before I went to work, I ordered Dark Cloud for PS2 online. I went to Gamestop earlier today, but they had an awful selection. I hear it was like the PS2's Zelda, so here's hoping. Went to work, and man am I tired.

Frogger's Adventures: The Rescue (PS2) Review

This was the last batch of games my girlfriend had left over beside one other game I already had played on GameCube. From here on I must obtain PS2 games on my own. Which shouldn't be too hard since they're so cheap. So yeah this is the first Frogger game I've played since the first game. Obviously I mean the arcade original. I didn't exactly play it in the arcade. I did play it on some arcade

Things I Like: The Simpsons: Hit and Run

I remember this game well because this was Grand Theft Auto but Simpsons style. Which I wanted to play pretty bad since I didn't have a PS2 at the time. It sucked being a poor kid. Hit and Run is pretty much GTA without the guns or the violence. It's really tame in comparison. You can take practically any vehicle for your own and use it during missions. It also has plenty of the humor from the

My Day Yesterday: A Bunch of Video Games

My girlfriend had a few games left over from when she gave me her PS2. I tried playing Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone for PS1, but the game had problems loading. I moved on to Capcom Vs SNK Pro for PS1. Also tried playing Corvette for PS2, but it was unreadable. Oh well. The only working PS2 game was Frogger's Adventures: The Rescue which was decent.

Things I Hate: MegaMan X7

I thought the original MegaMan X for SNES was one of the best in the series. However I think the following games progressively got worse as they went on. MegaMan X6 (the last X game on PS1) was pretty mudane, and not very memorable. X7 took the sub-series into 3D, and man did it stink. The game had a weird 2D to 3D gimmick going for it. Except it just made the game harder, not more detailed. They

My Day Yesterday: PS2 Where Have You Been For the Past Few Years?

Today my contacts felt better, since they were a brand new pair. They went pretty smoothly all day. While hanging out with my girlfriend, they call me in early to work, but it's alright since they gave me plenty of notice. It gave us plenty of time to watch the movie Rio. After work I plugged in my girlfriend's PS2 at my house. She had one hiding under her bad for the year and a half that I've

Things I Hate: XIII (2003 Video Game)

I bought this game a few years ago after hearing some interesting reviews on the title. Cel-shaded games were pretty popular a decade ago, and XIII took off on this success. Mainly because it was easy too when you're based off a comic book. The game really does feel like a comic books, they even add the "comic book font" when you hurt someone. It's a shame that the game's difficulty really ramps

Things I Like: Robotech: BattleCry

This game was based off some old 80's anime series. Oddly enough, from what I can tell the game was never released in Japan at all. There were Robotech games made before and after it that never saw release in the United States as well. Why the confusion? Who knows. Well Japan was missing out on a game that truly could have enjoyed. I never watched the show, but the robots in here were pretty cool

Things I Hate: Silent Hill 3

I rented the game before trying any other Silent Hill title. I honestly disliked it so much that I didn't even want to pick up the first or 2nd game even though I hear they're better. Now for those who like Silent Hill, this is a fine game. It's just too scary for my tastes. I can stand monsters jumping out of windows in Resident Evil, but this more psychologically scary than it's rival. I also

Things I Hate: The Sims: Bustin' Out

I've never played any of the games on PC, but I heard good things. The first console version was pretty big news back in the day, and it scored pretty well among the gaming magazines. So I eventually rented the game to see if it was any good. The game is pretty much like the PC original except a little better graphically, and without all the expansion packs. Though the console controllers

Things I Hate: Castlevania: Lament of Innocence

I rented this a few years back, and despite some good buzz pre-release among the game magazines I thought this one was pretty disappointing. It had a decent combat engine, sorta Devil May Cry meets Castlevania. However the castle felt boring with empty halls, awkward platforming, and pointless wandering. I returned this back to Blockbuster before you could blink.
